I've gone through the Buffet site and found the following: 2004 begins with 5 begins with 5 begins with 5 begins with 568786 During that period, serial numbers increased by about 17,000 per year. Thus: 2008 begins with approximately 5 begins with approximately 6 begins with approximately 6 begins with approximately 6 begins with approximately 653800 There are irregularities in the Buffet lookup, with dates scrambled, but these numbers should be fairly close. From the year-ranges given here I can see that it was made sometime in 2008, but BC seems to have no record of it. Any thoughts on why? The years after that are my own calculation, based on Buffet's production of about 17,000 clarinets per year. They're in no way official. We all wish that Buffet would update their list more frequently, but it doesn't seem to be a way to goose them. 1920s Buffet Crampon clarinet. Labeled 'Buffet Crampon A Paris, made in France' on all parts and ' Buffet Crampon A Paris, Carl Fischer, New York' on bell. Serial# 892F1( not 100% sure of last two digits. Buffet Crampon antique clarinet, serial # 1R655. Based on serial numbers given by Buffet, that dates this clarinet to 1902! There are two repaired cracks in the bell, doesn't affect sound.
