Serial Number Rotary Watches
Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, and its very impressive and overwhelming! I'm looking into buying a watch for myself - I recently got married and my in-laws bought me a knock off swiss watch accidentally. Needless to say it fell apart, but I don't want them to spend too much money on a replacement. Rotary looks like a beautiful way to go, especially for an inexpensive chronograph or skeleton, but I can't seem to find where they say what movement is in the watch?? I've been looking through old threads on this forum, but nothing is coming from it. Anyone know if Rotary uses ETA movements, and which models have it? Thanks so much for the help, -Dovid ps - FIRST POST so go easy on me.

Welcome to WUS! A few of the folks here own Rotary watches. For the most part I don't think you'll find many Rotary watches with ETA movements. Most of their line are quartz, and although I'm not sure, I have a suspicion they are using Miyota movements. Nothing wrong with that.

Having a look at their skeleton models, I recognize a PTS Hangzhou, one of the most common Chinese skeletonized movements (below). You'll see these in Stuhrling and Akribos as well. So, basically, these are fine watches for what they are, but they are only Swiss by 'heritage'. I think price is an issue at this point, at least for me. I would hate for them to have to spend that money all over again on it. I'm trying to keep things under 400-500 USD, though I'm not sure if thats being realistic.
For a Swiss automatic chrono? I don't think that will happen. If his demand that it be Swiss stems from him just wanting to be sure it is quality, then perhaps he should be shown other brands that are still known for quality? Good luck either way, but at this point, I'd focus on just 3 hand automatics. You won't get a brand new Swiss auto chrono for 400 (or even 500) bucks I don't think. Shame he can't get his money back on the watch that fell apart.
