I got this card in the form of a $50 gift card from a family member for Christmas. I have been unable to use it because they force you to call in and give ALL of your personal info including SSN. THEN, they said there were restrictions on the card that had to be removed. They asked all of my personal info four times until I finally asked for a manager. I was on hold waiting for 20 minutes until I finally gave up and hung up.
I just wanted to be able to use the gift card I was given. You can't unless you set up an account with them which I refuse to do so my family member wasted their money and I can't use my gift. Scammers and crooks. I have used this card for over a year as a primary bank account. I get my direct deposits early like a day or two early.
My husband and I both use the account with both of our earnings being deposited. They will even supply several additional cards. Since we direct deposit over $500 we upgraded to “Premier” and so fees are about $5 a month.

I’m willing to pay a monthly fee to have our money deposited sooner. Also with premier you are eligible for overdraft protection. You also can get a savings account, and your account number works just in case you need to pay a bill using a bank transfer. My only complaints is that I wish they had a chip card. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are ATM fees. I don’t really use cash but if I do need cash I use cash back at the register. Today (8/17/18), I received messages detailing transactions on my account that I did not make or approve, as I was at my place of employment at the time the purchases were made.
I called Customer Service immediately and was repeatedly bounced from one agent to another, who all had information that severely conflicted itself. A police report has been filed and the store that the purchases were made have been contacted.
This was all done by me, the company made no immediate attempt to resolve the issue. In addition, I was told I could wait anywhere from 10 to 90 days for a refund.
This is utterly unacceptable, as I need access to my funds to eat and continue to work. The agents I spoke to were very unhelpful. Jaira (172648) was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive. She at one point stalled severely on getting a supervisor about her and lied about being at the top of the command chain.

The lack of compassion and professionalism at Netspend is astounding. I was given a visa prepaid debit card as a gift. I forgot about it and when i went to activate it, I was told to call Customer Service. I did and they told me the card had expired. Funny thing is the card expiration date is not for another 4 months. The man told me that the card actually expired 4 months after it was purchased. That if I wanted to have it reactivated, I would have to provide my info including name, address, date of birth and social security number in order to be issued a new card.
When I said no, they said they would not offer a new card. So that money essentially went down the drain. They are FRAUDS! This company has the absolute worse customer service I have ever experienced. And so far the card has not worked in any foreign country I have tried it in because their crappy software can’t tell the difference between the foreign currency and USD so their system thinks you are trying to withdraw two million dollars if you are in Vietnam trying to get $90.!!!!
The card is good for people with no credit / bad credit!?!? It is a debit card like any other anyone can get one without all the stupid restrictions and incredibly crappy customer service that comes with this card.
And banks DO MAKE MONEY OFF OF DEBIT CARDS OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THEM! This company holds you money, restricts withdrawals and a host of other things that allows them to make free interest on millions and millions of dollars. This card is supposed to be for United customers - that would seem to these Brainiac’s that these customers might be traveling overseas. But the card does not work in China, Vietnam, or Thailand because there software is so primitive that it can’t tell you are withdrawing a foreign currency and trips a 'over your daily limit' block and then turns off your card.
